Being born to a northern family in the rural southern U.S. came with several challenges, the main one being the lack of hockey. The only option was, oddly enough, at the local armory which would transform the cafeteria into an inline rink. Cafeteria tables would be turned on their sides to form makeshift boards. While this was not ideal, it did teach the players to keep their heads up as the ‘rink’ had several pillars in the middle of it that the skaters had to avoid.

After a season of running tables and dodging ceiling supports, Patrick’s father built the first inline rink in Bowling Green on a local tennis court and founded the town’s first inline league. Later, Patrick moved onto the ice, having to drive 100 km to Nashville several times a week to play for Nashville Ice Tigers and playing for Team South in the summer.

Patrick has moved extensively since graduating university, he is now on his third stint living in Japan and finally got back into the sport after contacting the Tokyo Canadians. He’s thrilled to be in the same geographic region as a sheet of ice. He also plays for NaNashi Boyz in Saitama’s Misconduct League. Outside of hockey, Patrick works in finance and regularly volunteers at a local orphanage. His hobbies include frequenting the local pub and getting up to Nagano for snowboarding or the odd hike.
