The Tokyo Canadians first skate of 2024 was an action-packed contest between the TCHC Whites and the REDBLACKS. The game had so many goals the scorekeepers literally could not keep track of it all!*

The TCHC Whites were quick out of the gate, jumping to a commanding 4-0 lead after the first period, thanks to goals from Hiroki “Hot Hands” Yamashita, who tallied an incredible five goals on the night, with Mike Larose, Noah Honch and [S.H. (No. 6)] lighting the lamp as well. Tomo “NoName” picked up assists on the goals by Yamashita and Honch, with Vilmer, “the Swedish Rocket”, getting the second assist on the goal by Larose.

After some intense soul searching and strategic inter-squad trades the REDBLACKS came out flying in the second period with goals from Timo “the Man” Grossman, U-League call up Takaaki Shimomura, and the REDBLACK’s new signing Shu “the Traitor” Hayakawa. But the REDBLACK onslaught could not hinder Yamashita for long. Successive Yamashita rushes were rewarded as he collected three goals in the remainder of the second frame. Vilmer added another before the close of the period, with the score at 9-3 in favour of the Whites.

The final period was closely matched. Naoto “the Real Gritty” Hamashima’s two-way play paid dividends for the REDBLACKS, resulting in a finely finessed goal and an assist on another tally by Grossman. Hayakawa added two more to the REDBLACK scoreline, looking increasingly more at home with his new club. But the TCHC Whites dug deep and held on, thanks to two sweet goals by Larose and the final goal of the night for Yamashita. The Whites were rewarded by their latest acquisition, Eric “the Other Gritty” Wolfe, as the Wolfe-man buried the final goal for the Whites, thanks to a laser precise assist from Larose.

The final score was 13-7 for the TCHC Whites. Yamashita smashed his way to another MVP accolade, recording an incredible seven point night (5G, 2A). The REDBLACKS will be looking for revenge in the next tilt between these heavyweights. For now, the Tokyo Canadians wish one and all a very Happy New Year and best wishes for a fantastic 2024!
