The Tokyo Canadians final skate of the year was a tightly contested match between the TCHC Whites and the REDBLACKS on a very chilly Tokyo night at the hallowed Meiji Jingu Ice Arena. With many members away returning to their hometowns abroad, each team was down to a 10-player roster, but this didn’t hamper a very high up tempo North-South game.

The REDBLACKS team was powered by the Wolfe family, the father son duo, aka Gritty Sr and Jr, along with young, speedy and talented Braedon, making up the No. 1 line combining for a six point game. The REDBLACKS most dynamic forward Yamashita, once again was able to dipsy-doodle through the neutral zone and by the defense effortlessly scoring two highlight goals and one assist.

The REDBLACKS goal of the night was scored by E. Iveson who carried the puck up ice from coast to coast to only finish with a beautiful deke scoring on the short side. Killer Carlson provided the spine for their team defense.

The TCHC White team was led by the Shu-Man Show, who dominated the offensive output scoring 3 times on identical plays – flying down the right wing and using his left-handed shot to beat the goalie over the blocker top shelf. Newcomer Timo “Mr Michigan” Grossmann scored two; the power forward dominated along the wall to score a beautiful bar down, go ahead goal midway in the third period.

Team veteran Chaw-Dog played a great 200-foot game, and scored a sneaky tap in goal too. The stellar defense pair of Joji “The Rat” Marsh, a defenseman’s defenseman, and Koby “Orr” who rushed up the ice all night along and scored two highlight reel goals.

The teams were backstopped by outstanding goaltending: Takeshi Tatsumoto and Emerson Keung who were so kind to show their impartiality by switching teams every 15 mins.

The Final Merry Xmas Score: TCHC White 9 and the REDBLACKS 6.
